Noyek Interview E1391470626263

Self-Publisher’s Showcase: Today we are joined by Noyek, author of Tales from Pandora’s Box and Dear Infatuated. Welcome to the Showcase Lounge, Noyek.

Noyek: Hi everyone! Thanks so much for having me.

SPS: For any of our readers that haven’t come across your work previously, can you take a moment to tell us all a little about yourself?

N: Is that even possible? Just kidding, just kidding! Well, my name is Noyek, I live in Atlanta and write pretty hot books, you should check them out.

SPS: What are your perfect writing conditions, and how often do you write?

N: Oh wow, I have to have music, preferably something smooth, in the background. With writing, I can be a little weird. I have both read and been told time and time again, ‘all the great writers write daily’. Yea, unfortunately that’s not the case with me. I can write hours on end once I get in my groove but I definitely devote a few days out the week to get my fix.

SPS: You have so far written in two different genres? Are you keen to test yourself further across multiple genres, or are you happy where you are?

N: You know, after I wrote Tales from Pandora’s Box: Chocolate Fantasies, I was completely sold that Erotica was my niche and I was there to stay. Then I started Dear Infatuated and ended up in an entirely different genre as you can see. So, I’m just having fun and whatever genre I land in next I’ll give it one hundred ten percent and hope that the people love it.

SPS: Are there any genres that you would never attempt or wish to write?

N: I don’t like horror, I don’t even watch horror movies or read horror stories, so the odds of me giving you a true horror story is pretty slim.

Tales From Pandora's Box

SPS: Your debut was the erotic Tales from Pandora’s Box: Chocolate Fantasies. Tell us what someone could expect if they picked up a copy today?

N: A whole lot of lust, sultry women and sexy men in very erotic situations

SPS: What was the reasoning behind debuting with erotica: Is it your favourite subject to read, or did you just have the desire to tell those stories?

N: I love to read erotica, but not really hard core, it makes me blush (laughs). At that time, I began writing and that was fitting for how I felt creatively.

SPS: Do you have a favourite story in the collection?

N: Of course. Actually I have several, but two of my most favorite are Aphrodisiacs and The Head Doctor.

SPS: Could you ever see yourself revisiting any of the stories or characters in the future?

N: Oh yes, most definitely I could. It would be nice to know what happens after Julisa and her steamy escapade with fellow classmate and nerd, Derrick from School Daze: The Five Senses. Not to mention, Tila, from School Daze: The Internship was on the ride of her life while securing her internship. I wonder how that’s working out as well and if she’s still in the position.

SPS: Did you find any limitations in writing in the shorter form?

N: Somewhat, you have to tell the story in a much shorter time. It was a little harder to really flesh out the character, in my opinion, versus in a longer narrative.

SPS: What sort of response did you get from your readers?

N: Overall, the response was very well. My male readers became rather infatuated with Novacane. Hmmm, maybe I should bring her back.

Dear Infatuated

SPS: Moving on to your latest release. Tell us about Dear Infatuated.

N: Dear Infatuated, I love the story. It was so exciting to write, filled with so much drama and twists and turns. Just when you think you know, something happens and you find that you actually have no idea.

SPS: Lyric Ali has left her hometown behind to chase her dreams, how prepared is she for her new life?

N: Lyric isn’t the slightest prepared. All she knows is that there’s this large glamorous life out there somewhere and she’s going to get it.

SPS: She wants the spotlight, and determines that being with Russ will help her attain that. Does she actually have any feelings for Russ?

N: She’s in love with what he can do for her and that is all.

SPS: How does the character of Rayna, Russ’ other lady, differ to Lyric?

N: Lyric has a dream, a vision and knows why she’s there. Rayna on the other hand, has a hint of talent, no real vision but being that opportunity presented itself for better living and it was rather easy and attractive, she did not turn it down. Also, she actually has feelings for Russ in addition to the lifestyle he gives her.

SPS: Is there scope to continue to tell Lyric’s story, or was the plan always to make Dear Infatuated a standalone piece?

N: Lyric’s story definitely continues.

SPS: We always like to take a moment to look at an author’s book covers. Can you tell us a little about how your cover for Dear Infatuated came about?

N: I just knew I wanted something extremely simple, yet I needed it to reflect the meaning behind the story. People tend to mix love with lust, which is merely an infatuation. Universally we associate red with love, hence the red rose. However, in the case of this story there’s no real love its pure infatuation which is just a void yearning to be filled: the black background.

SPS: What can we expect next from the pen of Noyek?

N: I have received beautiful feedback from Dear Infatuated. My readers have made it very clear that they want to know what becomes of Lyric and everyone else in the story. I have heard you all! So, definitely be on the lookout to find out the answer to that.

SPS: Was the Self-Published/Indie-Published route always your preferred route for your work?

N: All I know is that I want to write to entertain readers. Self-publishing just happened to be the first available route but i’m definitely not opposed to the traditional route when opportunity presents itself.

SPS: Has the experience so far been all that you thought it would be?

N: Its actually been much more. I’m so grateful and I am excited for all the greatness to come.

SPS: If you could give one piece of advice for someone looking to get into writing, what would it be?

N: Get started! Get the story out of your head. I’ve actually been asked this a lot and the first thing I ask: Have you written the story yet? Ninety-five percent of the time the answer is ‘no, but I’ve been thinking about’. So my advice is to write.

SPS: Before we bring this interview to a close, it’s your chance to name-drop. Anyone who you feel is deserving of more recognition at present or someone whose writing you have recently enjoyed? Now is your chance to spread the word…

N: My editors, Kerry Genova of Writers Resource Inc. and Carol McLeod. Also, my cover designer, Tatiana Villa of Vila Designs.

SPS: Thank you for joining us today Noyek, and all the best for the future.

N: Thank you for having me and thank you so much for the well wishes.
