M. P. Tonnesen is a writer and business woman living on the Isle of Man in the Irish Sea. She writes business and lifestyle articles for magazines, as well as advises companies on organisational change and communication. She is originally from Denmark, but grew up in a multicultural family and has lived in Brussels, the Middle East, and London before moving to the island with her family in 2011. Her debut novel, The Cosmopolitan Islander, is inspired by her local and cosmopolitan journeys. She feels strongly about the feminist cause, but approaches it from a holistic perspective as she believes every woman should have the right to choose her own path in life. She enjoys reading, telling good stories, eating dark chocolate, and drinking champagne.
“I believe most women – perhaps particularly expats and others in cultural encounters – will be able to identify with the female protagonist in some way or another. But I also think a lot of men can relate to the main male character – the modern man’s roles and society’s expectation of him have changed too,” says the debut author, M. P. Tonnesen. “After three years in the making, I am very excited about launching my novel, and I can’t wait to hear the feedback from readers around the world.”

Join Chloe on her journey through her past and her present to make sense of her life, herself, her hopes, and dreams amid her personal upheaval.
The Cosmopolitan Islander is a thrilling new novel about female roles and identity in the 21st century – and about how the journey of life can change your destination in the most unexpected way. It takes the reader from the Isle of Man and around the world, traversing the timeless themes of love, desire, friendship, power, and ambition.
The main character, Chloe, is a Danish woman in her thirties with globetrotting running in her blood. She is constantly caught between her rational mind and her passionate nature. She is confronted by three main challenges: Relocation – its impact on her family’s stability, social network, and sense of belonging; Ambition – materialised by her local job hunt and career versus her motherhood struggles; and Desire – the love of Chloe and her husband is tested by their life changes, as well as some amorous surprises throughout the story.
The Cosmopolitan Islander is a must read for the modern woman – and man; for expats and others in cultural encounters; for islanders and globetrotters; and for anyone in-between.
