My name is Lindsay Corten and I’ll freely admit to being a total bookworm!
After 20 years of working in IT, I have finally found my raison d’être in becoming a freelance proofreader, which allows me to combine my love of reading with my desire to help people by bringing out the best in their writing through my proofreading and copy-editing skills.
I am also passionate about helping self-published/independent authors to get their work out there in a polished state, having discovered some fantastic authors who started off in the self-publishing world.
Although I only started my freelance business in April 2015, for my entire previous career as a systems analyst/business analyst/bid writer I was sought out by my colleagues to proofread, edit and, in many cases, re-write their documents.
Since starting my own business, I have been further honing my skills and have gained varied experience in proofreading/copy-editing many of types of written content, including books (proofreading only thus far), marketing materials, academic essays, policy documents, website wording and more besides.
I have also achieved a Distinction in the Publishing Training Company Basic Proofreading course, so I am able to offer proofreading using BSI 2005 standard symbols as well as in layman’s terms.
I primarily work in British English, but have also done some work proofreading IT books in US English.
I work hard to provide all of my clients with a friendly, professional and high-quality service at a fair price; I recognise the importance of good customer service, and open and honest communication.
