Michelle The Computer Lady Interview

Computer Smarter Cover

Self-Publisher’s Showcase: Today we are joined by Michelle The Computer Lady, author of Mommy, Is the Computer Smarter than Me? Welcome to the Showcase Lounge, Michelle.

MTCL: Thank you so very much for having me today.

SPS: For any of our readers that haven’t come across your work previously, can you take a moment to tell us all a little about yourself and your work?

MTCL: I am a new author and breast cancer survivor. I started writing children’s book to help heal from my battle with breast cancer in 2016. I started The Mommy Readers Collection, “Mommy, is the Computer Smarter than Me?” is the first book in the series. The book is a large picture book written in rhyming verse and it explains that we are smarter and more diverse than computers. The book also explains in kidspeak how computers work.

SPS:  What are your perfect writing conditions, and how often do you write?

MTCL: I write at night when it is quiet and ideas or storylines pop into my head.

SPS: Can you put your finger on the moment where you decided that you wanted to publish your work?

MTCL: Yes, I can. I was at home healing and my mind was racing about all the problems that come along with a diagnosis of cancer. GOD gave me this gift to write for children, to still my mind and heal mentally.  This would be a way to leave the world a little better and help children love to read.

SPS: Why do you think it is that you have found yourself writing in the style that you do?

MTCL: I love children, I am a grandmother and writing in rhyming prose helps little ones to grasp the concept easier.

SPS: What would you say, if anything, best differentiates you from other authors?

MTCL: I write STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) books, there are not any authors writing this type of book for young people.

SPS: Where does the inspiration for your work come from?

MTCL: I am a Tech Writer/Computer Technical Specialist for a large corporation.

SPS: Have you received a favourite review of your work?

MTCL: Yes, we have received reviews both online: Facebook and in the Barrow County news where I live.

SPS: What’s next on the self-/indie-publishing horizon for yourself?

MTCL: I am currently writing several more books and helping a friend to publish and market his book.

SPS: Was the Self-Published/Indie-Published route always your preferred route for your work?

MTCL: No, not originally until, I read about JK Rowling’s having to wait six years before being published by the mainstream publishers. I know that I don’t have six years. With my cancer diagnosis, the doctors have given me five years, and I did not undergo Chemotherapy.

SPS: Has the experience so far been all that you thought it would be?

MTCL: It is not what I thought it would be, it is more challenging than I imagined. I am struggling, because of being an unknown and new author. To combat this I am meeting people every day and work to garner more exposure/brand recognition.

SPS: If you could give one piece of advice for someone looking to get into writing, what would it be?

MTCL: Make sure you have a social media presence and utilize Self Publishers Showcase to help you.

SPS: Before we bring this interview to a close, it’s your chance to name-drop. Anyone who you feel is deserving of more recognition at present or someone whose writing you have recently enjoyed? Now is your chance to spread the word…

MTCL: Great book call Now Faith Is…. By Fray White. The book can be purchase on Amazon and is available as an E-book.

SPS: Thank you for joining us today, and all the best for the future.

MTCL: Thank you so much for allowing me to opportunity to interview with you. GOD bless you and your work.
